This is a five day course, with both City & Guilds (NPTC) assessments on the sixth day. The course covers maintenance of a chainsaw and techniques required to be able to fell a tree under guidebar length. Prior to assessment in CS31, candidates must achieve unit CS30.
During the course candidates will cover:
- Health & Safety requirements, including current legislation, PPE, safe operation, and Risk Assessments
- Identifying parts of the Chainsaw
- Chain identification and knowledge, including sharpening techniques
- Daily and monthly maintenance and checks
- Preparing a site for work
- Sequence of cuts for a straight fell; a tree heavily weighted in direction of fell; and a tree heavily weighted against direction of fell
- Dealing with certain situations including trees that have ‘sat back’, or are ‘hung up’
- Preparing the tree for timber production - snedding, cross cutting, and stacking
