Maintain a chainsaw & Small Tree Felling
(CS30, CS31)

This course covers maintenance of a chainsaw and techniques required to be able to fell a tree under guidebar length. Maximum guidebar length 380mm (15”).

Course Objectives:

H&S requirements, including current legislation, PPE,safe operation, and Risk Assessments.

Identifying parts of the Chainsaw.

Chain identification and knowledge including sharpening techniques.

Daily and Monthly maintenance and checks.

Preparing a site for work.

Sequence of cuts for a straight fell, a tree heavily weighted in direction of fell and a tree heavily weighted against direction of fell.

Dealing with certain situations including trees that have ‘sat back’, and ‘hung up’ trees.

Preparing the tree for timber production – snedding, cross cutting and stacking.

Duration Of Course:
6 days, NPTC assessment on sixth day .
Pre-Requisites,
Prior to assessment in CS31 Candidates must achieve Units CS30.
